Groundbreaking Fiber to the Home Deployment in Texas

After many attempts to persuade local providers to upgrade networks to support higher speeds and better reliability, the City realized that it needed to take action directly in order to secure its place in the digital economy. The City made the decision to deliver high-speed Internet to the community directly. The challenge the City faced was how to build, launch and manage a broadband business without the core expertise from day 1. Mont Belvieu needed a partner that could provide a turnkey solution to engineer, construct and launch what would become one of the, fastest most advanced broadband networks in Texas.

To implement the network, the City hired Magellan to engineer, construct and launch the fiber to the home network. Magellan provided a dedicated team of broadband experts that provided a turnkey solution to manage all facets of design, construction, operations and support for Mont Belvieu’s broadband business, including: Business & financial planning, Fiber to the home design engineering, Construction management, Sales and marketing integration, Internet and backhaul procurement.

Construction of the network was completed on time and under budget, allowing Mont Belvieu to launch services to the community based on its original commitments. 

MBLink, Mont Belvieu’s consumer brand, now provides Gigabit Internet to homes and businesses throughout the City, touting some of the fastest speeds in the State of Texas. And, MB Link’s internet service is less expenive than most national providers, with no data caps. For $75 per month, residents are provided 1 Gigabit Internet and an in-home gigabit gateway router. Demand for service has been significant in the first year of the network and MBLink is surpassing its original uptake forecasts.
